The British Exporters Association respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about the information we hold about you. This Privacy Notice aims to explain how we collect, process and use your personal information.

What type of information we have

We currently collect and process the following information:

  • Contact information (for example, full name, job title, username, business address, telephone numbers, email or other addresses)

  • Become a member of the Association,Attend an event as a speaker, delegate, sponsor or exhibitor
  • Create an account on our website

  • Subscribe to our services or publications

  • Request marketing information to be sent to you.
  • Take part in one of our awards

We may also receive personal information about you indirectly from publicly available sources eg from Companies House, social media sites, third party events.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

  • We have a contractual obligation.
  • We have a legal obligation.
  • We have a legitimate interest.

What we do with the information we have

Where you have requested that we provide any of our services to you, or you otherwise make use of those services, we will process your Personal Data in order to perform our contract with you and provide those services to you.

We also use the Personal Data we hold about you to pursue our legitimate interests in providing and marketing our services to you, improving our website, services and interactions with you. In some cases we may also need to use the Personal Data we hold about you to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation.

The data we collect may be shared with other members of the British Exporters Association.  We will not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.  We may need to share your data if we are required to do so by law.

How we store your information

Your information will be securely stored on servers within the European Economic Area (EEA). Access to personal data shall be limited to personnel who need access and appropriate security shall be in place to avoid unauthorised sharing of information.  We do not store any credit or debit card details nor do we share customer financial details with any third parties. 

We will only retain your information for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including satisfying any legal, accounting or reporting requirements.

Where we have provided you with a service we may also keep an archived record of your Personal Data for a period of up to 6 years after termination (unless a longer period is prescribed by law) for the purposes of responding to legal disputes and legal enquiries or investigations only.

We may change this privacy policy. In that case, the ‘last updated’ date at the bottom of this page will also change. Any changes to this privacy policy will apply to you and your data immediately.
